Player Evaluations

Tryouts

This year, we will holding tryouts for the 2024 traveling season in the fall. Tryouts will be the evening of July 31 and August 1. Please register for tryouts as soon as possible - this will help us determine which age groups will be which night.

Age groups will be assigned for one of the nights; your player does not need to attend both nights.

The total cost of the 2024 Travel Season is $200. The fee for Tryouts is $100 to be paid at the time of tryout registration. This is a deposit towards the 2024 season and is non-refundable once your player is placed on a team roster.

The remaining $100 for the season will be due by February 1, 2024. After our budget review in the winter 2023, we will determine the cost of uniforms and the volunteer fee.

Evaluation overview

Welcome to the Inver Grove Heights Baseball Assoc. travel program. We are very aware that this is an exciting and stressful time for both the ballplayers and the parents. For that reason, we have prepared an outline that explains the evaluation process in detail.

We are very confident that we have created a system that gives everyone an equal chance to compete for a spot on these teams.

There will be at least one team formed at each age level. Most age levels will have a A and possibly a AA team formed, however this is dependent on numbers and ability.

This year’s evaluations will be held on February 19, 2022 at Truplayerz in Rosemount. Prospective players are expected to participate in the session for their age group. Prospective players are STRONGLY encouraged to attend their evaluation for proper team placement.

Evaluation process

The players will be evaluated on the following areas:

Team Selection

Our travel team selections are based off of a two part system:

1. The top players (based on their scores from the evaluation judges) are locked in each age group, and are automatically placed on the highest level team. The amount of locked players varies per age group.

2. The remaining players are also based off tryout scores as well as coach input, and travel director approval.

While no system of selecting teams will result in all players and parents agreeing, this system has proven to work well. Our goal is ultimately to place the correct players on each travel team based on ability.

evaluators

None of the evaluators used are affiliated in any way with Inver Grove Heights Baseball and they do not live or have children playing baseball in the district.

Only the evaluators will score the players, no other input from any other sources will be used.

Some qualifications of our evaluators are as follows:

Professional baseball players
Collegiate baseball players
Professional baseball instructor
Tryout judges for other communities
Coaches from various levels

SPECTATORS

Due to the small amount of room in the facility and for the overall benefit for the participants, NO SPECTATORS will be allowed to view evaluations. This rule will be strictly enforced and we ask that you all respect this request
