Volunteer Info & FAQs

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities are offered for three (3) weekend tournaments throughout the season and shifts are typically 2-4 hour blocks via DIBs.

Once you sign-up for a shift, you are committed to that shift and it is your responsibility to cover that shift.  Any and all no shows will result in forfeiture of your $500 volunteer deposit. All volunteer hours need to be completed by Aug 31st of the current season.

To register for a shift, please click on the desired opportunity below. Additional volunteer opportunities will be posted as they become available.

Volunteer Policy

Revision Date: March 2024

Background: In the interest of creating a more fair and equitable situation for all our members, the IGHBA has determined that a Volunteer policy needs to be established for its traveling teams' members.  We have in the past had a small group of members doing the large majority of the volunteering.  This creates an unfair circumstance, and at times has made it very difficult to get enough volunteers for a particular event.  Thus, we have researched what several other youth associations have done in terms of volunteering and have created our own policy.

The only way we can successfully continue to offer home tournaments is by having a successful concession stand and the volunteers to staff it. We strongly encourage every member to volunteer and help make the baseball experience great for our players.

Volunteer Policy:  The profit from successful tournaments is how we continue to offset registration costs, offer free or discounted uniforms, and continue to build our player development/off season opportunities, therefore the IGHBA volunteer requirements are as follows:

  • In House

    • 0 hours per player/family need to be completed

  • Traveling

    • 8 hours per player/family need to be completed

      • Head Coaches are not required to perform volunteer hours

      • Assistant Coach (up to 3) and Team Manager are not required to perform volunteer hours

      • All coaches are highly encouraged to complete their hours via preseason training/coaching as well as during the season

    • Each family will pay a volunteer deposit of $500

      • You will have the opportunity at time of registration to opt out of volunteer hour requirements. This money will be collected at time of registration and used to help hire the needed workers to staff the tournament.

  • A "no show" for a shift will result in forfeiting the volunteer fee

  • Those not meeting this requirement will forfeit the volunteer fee to the Association (see below)

  • Any volunteer shifts/hours canceled before their scheduled start time will NOT be credited.

  • Volunteer hours are not transferable between individuals unless approved by IGHBA prior to completion of said hours

  • The deadline to complete and receive credit for volunteer hours is August 31st of the current season. Any volunteer hours completed after August 31st will be credited to the subsequent season.

  • All Board Members and Directors are not required to perform volunteer hours

Administration of the policy:  Our Volunteer Director will organize, delegate, and monitor all volunteering.  In order for hours to be credited towards your yearly requirement, it must be pre-arranged through the director.  This can be done through the website.

The policy will be administered as follows:

  • Upon player registration, all players will be required to submit  their volunteer fee, as well as sign a volunteer form.  This payment WILL NOT be processed unless forfeited or you choose not to volunteer.

  • All volunteer hours will be posted online.

  • The duties and time slots will vary depending on the event.

  • Slots will be filled on a first-come/first-served basis.

Our Volunteer Director will monitor each event, the volunteers who participated, and the number of hours worked.  After the deadline of August 31st has passed, all members who have met their yearly obligation will have their un-cashed check shredded.  Those not meeting the obligation will have their checks cashed at that time.

Volunteer checks will be collected at the Parent Meeting prior to the season. Volunteer checks must be submitted prior to your player(s) being allowed to practice or participate in any games.
